Assistant Professor of Kinesiology Katie Becofsky was recently featured in a New York Times story about how walking the dog can be good for human health.
Becofsky designed a study that used a dog obedience class to see if they could boost the dog owners’ physical activity. “We know from other research that the best predictor of dog walking is feeling a strong bond with your dog,” she says.
She and her team found they could increase the amount of time the dogs were walked, but it didn’t translate into a major boost in exercise for the humans.
