degree and his Ph.D in entomology from the University of Illinois. He joined the Navy in 1986 after earning his Ph.D, first serving as Department Head of Operations at the Navy Disease Vector Ecology and Control Center (DVECC) in Jacksonville, FL. While stationed at Pearl Harbor, he received a grant to study dengue fever and malaria transmission patterns in Vietnam. While stationed at NEPMU 2, Gary decided to return to school for his MPH degree. He earned his MPH in public health practice from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in February 2006. Gary served in Operation Iraqi Freedom in the spring 2005.
Gary was also active in the Virginia Mosquito Control Association , most recently as President of the Tidewater Mosquito and Vector Control Council (TMVCC) in 2004, and continued to help by volunteering to proofread draft versions of the publication “Skeeter”. Gary was a superb entomologist and public health practitioner. He had a delightful sense of humor, and was a kind, thoughtful person. He leaves behind his wife, Judife, and two sons, Gary, Jr. and Ryan. He will be missed by all who had the privilege to know him.
