Cognitive Function and Functional-Living Study

Andrea Morand of the University of Massachusetts Amherst is conducting her Master’s Thesis study examining the relationship between cognitive function and a newly developed measure of functional-living (Movement and Activity in Physical Space [MAPS] score). MAPS measures how older adults function in their real-world environment.

Eligibility criteria:

  • Aged 65 years or older
  • Ambulatory without aid
  • Free of any conditions that affect walking (i.e., stroke, diabetes)
  • Capable of completing a brief cognitive task at time of phone screening

1st Testing Session (1 hour):

  • Informed Consent Document, demographic questionnaire, brief walking test, cognitive testing
  • Activity monitors worn in between testing sessions to measure movement in real-world environment

2nd Testing Session (10 minutes)-One week later:

  • Activity monitors will be returned
  • Physical activity questionnaire and compensation forms completed

$15 compensation
