School of Public Health and Health Sciences

Dean's Welcome

Welcome to the School of Public Health and Health Sciences. Our award-winning faculty, staff, and students from four departments work across disciplines to optimize the public’s health and quality of life through a wide array of coursework and educational programs, research studies,  and community and clinic-based outreach projects. Over 600 undergraduate students are working towards bachelor’s degrees in Communication Disorders, Kinesiology, and Nutrition, as well as a new B.S. degree in Public Health Sciences. The Office for Public Health Practice and Outreach helps to link students and faculty with community-based practitioners to develop meaningful field research and service projects across the state.

SPHHS-based centers and research interest groups address cross-cutting issues such as global health, women’s health, aging, and obesity, fostering interdisciplinary research and training projects around the world.  Our 70 faculty members and over 400 graduate students are actively engaged in laboratory and community and clinic-based research and service, with over 5 million dollars of research grant expenditures in 2006.  A growing number of our students reside around the globe, as the number of participants in the Online M.P.H. in Public Health Practice program grows.  A new, fully online, M.P.H. in Nutrition program will begin its first class in Fall, 2008.

These are just a few of the exciting developments in our School.  Please explore the School through our website, and contact us for further information at any time.  Whether you are a prospective or current student, parent, alumnus, mentor, collaborator, or friend and supporter, we look forward to working with you toward better health and quality of life for all.
