Department of Communication Disorders

Graduate Programs

The Department of Communication Disorders offers both professional and research degree programs at the graduate level.  The professional degree programs offered by the department include a Masters of Arts (M.A.) in Communication Disorders (speech-language pathology concentration) and the Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) degree. These programs are designed to prepare speech-language pathologists and audiologists to work with individuals across the age span with communication differences and/or disorders. Both professional preparation programs are accredited by the Council of Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

In addition to the professional degree programs, the department also offers a research degree (Ph.D.) in Communication Disorders. Students entering the Ph.D. program elect to concentrate their studies in either speech-language pathology or audiology. In addition, the department offers students who wish to complete the requirements for national certification as an audiologist (CCC-A) the option of completing the necessary coursework and clinical practicum experience during their Ph.D. program (i.e., a Ph.D. program with a clinical tract option). This program uniquely prepares individuals as clinical audiologists as well as academicians. The latter program is also accredited by the CAA.
