Dr Glendene Lemard is a Research Assistant Professor of Public Health. She is also the Managing Director for the Greater Springfield-UMass Amherst Partnership which aims to revitalize the city of Springfield through increased levels of collaboration and engagement between the campus and the city. She completed her Ph.D. in International Relations at the University of Miami in 2004. Her doctoral dissertation focused on violence as a global health issue and she used an interdisciplinary approach to study violence in Jamaica. Prior to coming to UMass, Dr Lemard was a postdoctoral fellow at the Harvard School of Public Health where she conducted research on violence in developing countries. She has worked on violence prevention initiatives with the Inter-American Development Bank, Men's Resources International, Miami-Dade Public Schools, the Partnership for the Study and Prevention of Violence (now the Injury Free-Coalition for Kids) and she continues to support the work of the Jamaica Constabulary Force in improving the collection and classification of data on violence in Jamaica. Currently she is a member of the Violence Prevention Task Force for the city of Springfield and a board member of Partners for a Healthier Community. She teaches interdisciplinary courses on international health and development.
