William J. Bartosch is an Assistant Professor of Public Health. His research interests include Medicare and Medicaid policy, behavioral healthcare issues, disability, and tobacco control. He is particularly interested in the role of political institutions, interests, and ideas in shaping health policy. He has conducted research for a variety of government agencies and private foundations, including the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, the Agency for Healthcare Quality and Research, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. He received his doctorate in Health Policy and Politics from Brandeis University in 2004. His dissertation studied congressional policymaking by analyzing the evolution of disability policies affecting alcoholics and drug addicts. Dr. Bartosch joined the Department of Public Health in 2005. Prior to joining the faculty, he worked for the non-profit Research Triangle Institute, and he served as the Director of Prevention Services for the National Association of State Alcohol and Drug Abuse Directors.
Research and publications in the areas of Medicaid and Medicare policy, managed care, alcohol and other drug prevention and treatment, tobacco control, and disability.
