The School of Public Health and Health Sciences (SPHHS) invites alumni and friends back to campus for its 5TH ANNUAL SPHHS FALL CELEBRATION!

Debold receives American Heart Association grant to study muscle function to advance treatment of heart failure

Associate Professor of Kinesiology Edward "Ned" Debold recently received a three-year, $198,000 grant from the American Heart Association to support studies to uncover the molecular mechanisms of skeletal muscle fatigue. The work will advance basic understanding of muscle function and should lead to new drug therapies for individuals with fatigue that greatly limits physical function and quality of life, including the 5.7 million Americans living with chronic heart failure.

Environmental Health Sciences faculty members Pilsner and Wood inspire girls to pursue STEM learning

Environmental Health Sciences faculty members Rick Pilsner and Ezra Wood hosted a pair of summer workshops for middle school girls as part of the Eureka! Program. The hands-on, lab-based activities were designed to inspire young girls to pursue science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning. The Eureka! Program, which recently completed the second year of a partnership between UMass Amherst and Girls Inc. of Holyoke, is aimed at addressing the gender gap in STEM fields.

Register now for the Western MA Health Equity Summit!

The School of Public Health and Health Sciences invites alumni, faculty, staff, students, and friends to register for the first-ever Western Massachusetts Health Equity Summit being held on Thursday, October 2, 2014 in the UMass Amherst Campus Center. The Summit will bring together practitioners and community leaders from across the region to work, learn, and take important steps toward greater health equity in Western MA.

SPHHS announces new Graduate Certificate in Global Health

The School of Public Health and Health Sciences is proud to introduce its new Graduate Certificate in Global Health. The program is open to all current graduate students, and to non-matriculated working professionals who have an interest in global health. The certificate is 15 credits and is offered 100% online.
