Research Centers and Institutes

Faculty within the Biostatistics program support, collaborate, and contribute to several centers and institutes within the School of Public Health and Health Sciences, including the Institute for Computational Biology, Biostatistics and Bioinformatics (ICB3) and the Biostatistics Consulting Center at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (BCCUMA). Biostatistics faculty members are actively involved in the UMass Center for Clinical and Translational Science. Together, we foster transdisciplinary research, teaching and outreach efforts that span the basic and applied sciences and public health, clinical practice and community applications.

Institute for Computational Biology, Biostatistics and Bioinformatics (ICB3)

The Institute for Computational Biology, Biostatistics and Bioinformatics (ICB3) is an interdisciplinary institute working at the intersection of computational, biomedical and translational research. The ICB3 was established in 2012 to create research oriented and educational activities that facilitate trans-disciplinary collaborations involving high-level analytic and computational methods as they apply to biomedical and life sciences research. Participating faculty bring expertise in biology, biostatistics and computer science to work on shared challenges and interests.

Visit the ICB3 website for more information.

Biostatistics Consulting Center at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (BCCUMA)

The Biostatistics Consulting Center at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (BCCUMA) has access to a broad range of expertise in modern statistical practice. They draw upon faculty within the School of Public Health and Health Sciences and in departments across campus to address all areas of research.

The size, scope, nature, and level of funding of research and consulting projects conducted through the BCCUMA vary widely. Activities may be as simple as basic statistical analysis of a small, existing data set or as complex as mounting a major, multi-site data collection effort that takes place over several years. The BCCUMA provides collaboration, sharing of technical resources and expertise, and standardization of project management.
