Campus-wide Facilities
The Office of Information Technologies (OIT) provides telecommunications and general computing and networking to students, faculty, and staff at the university. The OIT username (Net ID) Provides access to e-mail, Internet, personal website hosting, the Udrive, and to OIT's PC classrooms. All students must have an active OIT Net ID. Students who pre-register for classes get their OIT Net ID in the mail. If you did not get your Net ID, go to Lederle Graduate Research Center (LGRC) lowrise Room A113 to get an OIT Net ID. Be sure to bring your UCard (or other valid picture ID) for identification. OIT provides computer classrooms for faculty using computer technology in their coursework. Students, faculty and staff may use the computer facilities for homework (or other University-related work) when a class is not scheduled. A complete list of computer classroom locations is provided by OIT when registering for an OIT account or can be found at http://www.oit.umass.edu/classrooms/info/locations.html . Hours of computer classroom operation are announced by OIT during the first weeks of the semester. These facilities are shared by all university students on a first-come, first serve basis. You will need your own storage device, or the UDrive to save your work. Work can not be stored on the hard drives of OIT machines.Always make a backup copy of your work.
