Director of Epidemiology

The University of Massachusetts - Amherst (www.umass.edu/sphhs) and Baystate Medical Center ww.baystatehealth.com/academics) seek an epidemiologist to serve as Director of Epidemiology at Baystate Medical Center, as an extension of the Division of Biostatistics and Epidemiology, Department of Public Health, University of Massachusetts – Amherst.
Position: The successful candidate will join the faculty at UMass - Amherst and Baystate Medical Center. Candidates will be expected to develop their own research program and work in collaboration with 13 epidemiologists and biostatisticians at UMass and 250 physicians at Baystate Medical Center. This position involves the leadership and recruitment of new staff at Baystate Medical Center to create an epidemiology and biostatistical core resource to support investigators in research design, data management, statistical analyses, and grant writing. In addition, this position includes a non-tenure track appointment at UMass-Amherst at the Assistant/Associate Professor level, with responsibilities of teaching, primarily at the graduate level, and advising masters and doctoral students. Appointment and salary are commensurate with experience.
Organizations: Epidemiologists in the Division of Biostatistics and Epidemiology at UMass- Amherst are actively engaged in research in cancer, genomics, nutrition, and reproductive health. Baystate Medical Center is a 653-bed tertiary care medical center that includes Baystate Children’s Hospital, the region’s only Level I trauma center. There are 250 fulltime Tufts faculty and 290 trainees in 9 residency and 14 fellowship programs. The Pioneer Valley Life Sciences Institute (www.PVLSI.org) is an affiliated basic science research organization that is jointly supported by Baystate Medical Center and UMass - Amherst. Springfield and Amherst are located in the scenic Pioneer Valley of Western Massachusetts with easy access to the Berkshires, Vermont, Boston, and New York. The region is family-oriented and has a favorable cost-of-living with some of the best schools in Massachusetts. The area supports a rich network of academic institutions.
Qualifications: Candidates for the position must meet the following requirements:
- Ph.D. in Epidemiology or equivalent degree
- An established or emerging research program; prior receipt of extramural funding is preferred
- Ability to lead and collaborate with multidisciplinary research teams
- Demonstrated interest and ability in teaching at the graduate level
