The University of Massachusetts Survey of International Thought Leaders on Emerging Challenges in Breast Cancer Research and Practice was directed by Drs. Shlomo Barnoon and David Buchanan from the Division of Community Health Studies at the School of Public Health & Health Sciences. In collaboration with Innovara, Inc., they were responsible for the overall design of the study, the analysis of the results and dissemination of the study findings. They have presented the results of this research at the annual conferences of the National Consortium of Breast Centers; the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO); and the San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium. Based on the study results, Glaxo-Smith-Kline (GSK) has funded 22 pilot studies to follow-up on substantiating findings of a distinct manifestation and potentially different etiology of breast cancer in non-Caucasian women.
