Dear Prospective Applicant:

Thank you for your interest in Special Education  at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. We are always very much interested in applicants who are intellectually enthusiastic about the field of special education and improving the academic outcomes for students with disabilities and their families. Special Education offers its graduate students many exciting opportunitiesand is one of four graduate concentrations that comprise the Department of Student Development.  Special Education at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is nationally accredited and recognized by the National Council of Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) and offers a Master of Education (M.Ed.), a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study (CAGS), and a Doctorate in Education (Ed.D.) through the School of Education.  Licensure is offered as a teacher of Moderate Special Needs (pre-K to Grade 9; Grade 5 to Grade 12) and as an Administrator of Special Education (all levels).

Application packets may be obtained on-line at http://www.umass.edu/gradschool/prospective_student_online_application.htm . Application materials should include an application form, transcripts, and three letters of reference.  Incomplete application packets will not be reviewed.  Those interested in Special Education are invited to interview prior to admission. The application deadline is January 15th. Students are only accepted for fall admission. Late applications may be considered.
