The Spanish & Portuguese Program here at the University of Massachusetts is devoted to helping undergraduate students in their development of the foreign languages within our unit. Learning a language can be difficult, but even more so when you don't have the opportunity to practice. The aim of our Café Series is to allow students the chance to put their communication skills to use with native speakers of the language. These sessions are usually run by SpanPort Faculty and Graduate Students in tandem, and usually occur at least once a week for 1 hour. Come practice speaking in Spanish/Portuguese/Catalan and join us for some coffee and some excellent conversation!!!
Catalan is one of the four largest languages currently spoken in Spain and UMass Amherst is the only public university in New England to offer it as part of their program. The Catalan Café Session is run by our Catalan Language Program director, Guillem Molla, in conjunction with our current Catalan Teaching Associate, Lola Juan Moreno.
The next Catalan Café will be held in the Spring semester of 2014 (Schedule TBA)
