Ideology and Evidence in the Making of U.S. Immigration Policy - Douglas Massey (Princeton)

The first Social Science Matters lecture of the semester will feature speaker Douglas Massey, professor of Sociology at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs at Princeton University. He will discuss the work he has done with legislators and policymakers in developing his migration research for policy use. He will also give his perspective on how academics can best work with the new administration on migration policy going forward.

Doug Massey is one of the nation's preeminent social scientists whose research on US-Mexico border enforcement and militarization has received a great deal of scholarly, public policy and media attention. He is a member of the National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the American Philosophical Society. He is past-president of the American Sociological Association, the Population Association of America, and the American Academy of Political and Social Sciences. Among his migration-related books, he is the author of Brokered Boundaries: Constructing Immigrant Identity in Anti-Immigrant Times and Beyond Smoke and Mirrors: Mexican Immigration in an Age of Economic Integration.
