Five Sociology Graduate Students awarded 2016 Summer Dissertation Fellowships

UMass Graduate School, Goodell Building

PhD candidates Cassaundra Rodriguez, Swati Birla, Patricia Sanchez-Connally, Celeste Curington, and JooHee Han have each won 2016 Summer Dissertation Fellowships from the Graduate School.

The Graduate School recently received funding from Provost Newman to launch a major new Summer Dissertation Research Fellowship that will enhance inclusive excellence at UMass Amherst. This fellowship will support doctoral and MFA candidates from underrepresented groups who are currently working towards the completion of their dissertations or MFA theses. Students from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences bring fresh perspectives and insights to their departments, disciplines, and the UMass campus. This fellowship will promote greater diversity and inclusion on campus, in the professoriate, and among doctoral and MFA degree recipients by supporting students’ efforts to complete their degrees in a timely fashion.
