Minor
Students who wish to minor in sociology and have the minor recorded on their transcripts may do so by taking five courses (see below for specifications) in sociology. The minor cannot be declared until the student is enrolled in the last class(es) needed to fulfill the requirements listed below. Then, the student should come to the Undergraduate Office Manager (Thompson 712) and fill out the requisite forms.Only one of these five courses may be at the 100 level. The other four must be courses at the 200 level or above.
Only graded courses will be counted toward the minor; sociology courses taken pass/fail will not be granted minor credit. A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 is required for all sociology courses applied to the minor.
At least three of the sociology courses must be taken at UMASS Amherst in order to be applied to the sociology minor.
Students minoring in sociology are enrolled in upper division sociology courses on a space available basis. Sociology majors are given priority in registering for courses.
