Committee on Intellectual Activity (CIA)
The Sociology Department sponsors exciting intellectual activities throughout the year. We have a colloquium series that we co-sponsor with the Social and Demographic Research Institute. In this series, scholars are invited to present their research in its various stages ranging from works in progress to finished products. We strive to create a series that provides those attending with the latest in sociological research and related disciplines. Sociology graduate students and faculty from the Five Colleges are frequent presenters for these events; we also bring in faculty from around the globe. Recent speakers from outside the Valley include Colin Jerolmack NYU), Jan Sinclair Jones (Curtin University, Australia), Rebecca Emigh (UCLA), Paula England (Stanford), Gil Eyal (Columbia), Karen Lacey (Michigan), Barbara Risman (Illinois-Chicago).
