SCHEDULE:

GED Prep Courses

Instructors: Leslie Edwards, Robert Miller, and Dee Kinlock

Mondays (10:00am - Noon) this session is focused on Math and English. This time is reserved for mothers with children. Childcare is provided on site and you must call at least one week in advance.

Mondays (1pm - 3pm) and (3pm - 5pm) open to all with the focus on Math and English.

Tuesdays (6pm - 8pm) open to all with a focus on Math

Wednesdays (3pm - 5pm) open to all with a focus on Science and Social Studies

General Information on the GED

The GED (General Educational Development) Test Battery is a national examination developed by the GED Testing Service of the American Council on Education. The American Council reports that almost all (more than 95%) of employers in the nation employ GED graduates and offer them the same salaries and opportunities for advancement as traditional high school graduates.
The actual tests are administered at area community colleges, including Holyoke Community College, Berkshire Community College, Springfield Technical and Community College, and Greenfield Community College. Test Organized (5 parts):
  • Language Arts, Writing: divided into a 50 question test on organization, sentence structure, usage, and mechanics, and an essay writing component.
  • Social Studies: 50 questions in world history, US history, civics and government, economics, and geography.
  • Science: 50 questions in life sciences, earth and space science, physical sciences (physics and chemistry).
  • Language Arts, Reading: 40 questions on literary text (poetry, drama, fiction) and nonfiction prose (informational text, literary nonfiction, viewing component, business documents).
  • Mathematics: 50 questions on number operations, number sense, measurement and geometry, data analysis, and algebra. (on half of which one can use a calculator).

Class includes basic photo editing and includes a CD with Photoshop 7.

Making the most of free Google applications

Wednesday, January 27th, 6-8 pm

“Google Apps offer free, simple, powerful communication and collaboration tools” for personal and business use.

Advanced Adobe Photoshop

A continuation of the the basic class with additional photo editing skills.

Accessing Media Over the Internet

Learn to access media over the internet, including TV, movies, and educational media.

Digital Photography 101

Thursdays, March 10 & 17

Learn to download your pictures from your camera to your computer, resize pictures, create & organize folders, and safeguard your digital pictures.

Basic Word Processing

Thursdays, Feb 17 & 24

We’ll cover basic word processing skills, including creating a document, editing, cutting & pasting, formatting, etc. Basic computer skills and familiarity with mouse and keyboard are required for this course.
