The Judicial Advisors Program is currently searching for students to be Judicial Advisors.  This is a paid position.

INFORMATION ON JUDICIAL ADVISORS

 The university has established a trained pool of students to assist their fellow students through issues related to alleged violations of the Code of Student Conduct (CSC). This includes assisting in the preparation and presentation of one’s case before a Hearing Board. The nature and scope of this board is outlined in Section III of the CSC (pages 26-27 of the 2005-2006 Daily Planner for Academic Success). The procedures while the boards follow appear in Section IV.E. of the CSC (pages 28-29 of the Daily Planner for Academic Success booklet).

 Judicial Advisors are members of the university community that assist students through the university disciplinary system. An Advisor’s function is to provide support and to disseminate information to students. Upon the request of students, an advisor accompanies an advisee to a judicial hearing or conference. At the hearing, advisors assure that a student’s procedural rights are protected by the Hearing Board, and provide the necessary information so that a student can make an informed decision regarding the allegations in question.

 Judicial Advisors receive training in listening and communication skills, the judicial system, and conference and hearing procedures. In addition, they are expected to know the structure and nature of the university’s disciplinary system, and be able to apply their knowledge of the university community to each case. Therefore, Judicial Advisors should consider the extent to which they are able to assist a variety of students in a fair and reasonable manner.

 In order to be eligible to be a Judicial Advisor, you must:

            1.      be a full-time undergraduate (you may live on or off campus);

THE JUDICIAL ADVISOR’S PROGRAM
Overview of the Program

T

he Code of Student conduct state that all charged students must represent themselves at all university judicial proceedings however, any student may seek the assistance of an advisor from the university community, as long as said advisor is not an attorney.  The Judicial Advisor’s Program was designed by the Student Attorney General’s Office of the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Dean of Students Office to assist both charged students and complaining students in better understanding the university’s judicial process.  They also assist students to prepare for Judicial Conferences, Hearings, and Appeals.
