Abhijit Deshmukh - Ph.D, Director

Deshmukh is Professor of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering at the University of Massachusetts since 1998.   He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Bombay in 1987, a masters from SUNY Buffalo, and a Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Purdue in 1993.   He has won the Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer from the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), an NSF Research Initiation Award, and a Lilly Teaching Fellowship. He is currently director of the UMass's Consortium for Distributed Decision Making, and is serving in the DMII Engineering Directorate at NSF.   His research focuses on complexity in manufacturing systems and multi-agent systems for manufacturing and design--topics which prepare him well for the challenges of homeland security research.

 

Elaine Pressman, Ph.D., Senior Research Fellow

D. Elaine Pressman earned her bachelor's degree in history, political
science and philosophy from the University of Manitoba in 1966, and a
master's (1968) and a Ph.D. from the Ohio State University in Speech Science
in 1971.  She completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Psychology at Carleton
University (Ottawa, Canada) and obtained certification in Voice
Identification and acoustic spectrography at Michigan State University in
conjunction with the Michigan State Police.  She has been awarded research
grants and contracts from the National Research Council of Canada , The
Canadian Department of Communications, and other government departments and
agencies.She has served on numerous federal and provincial task forces and
advisory boards and has over 16 years of diplomatic and international
relations experience. She is the recipient of a national honour and is an
invited member of the Netherlands Intelligence Studies Association (NISA).
In addition to her position as a SEPRI Senior Research Fellow, she is in
charge of the European Branch of SEPRI (EURO-SEPRI).  Her current research
focus is related to intelligence, communication and homeland security
research.
