There’s never been a more pressing time to bring science into the classroom. Yet few mainstream programs offer a cohesive curriculum that prepares teachers to create inquiry-based science classrooms that lay the foundation for future learning. Our online and field-based degree program for K-8 teachers integrates cutting-edge educational methodologies with science content in subject areas ranging from astronomy to oceanography. Solidify your knowledge and build effective teaching strategies you can apply right away in the classroom in this comprehensive program renowned for its interdisciplinary, hands-on approach.

The Science Education Online (SEO) graduate program combines the expertise of education and science faculty and K-12 teachers at the University of Massachusetts to develop science and science education courses that are inquiry-based and have strong hands-on components.

This program was developed jointly* by UMass Amherst and UMass Lowell faculty in Education, Science, and Engineering. Upon completion of this program, participants will earn a Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree or an Education Specialist Degree (EdS).
