Massachusetts State Model For School Counseling Programs

The Massachusetts School Counselor Association (MASCA) has been working to develop a state model for school counseling programs. The model is based on the ASCA National Model, and "customized" for Massachusetts by explicitly tying the ASCA Model to initiatives in the state regarding career development benchmarks for students in grades K-12. The model has been endorsed by the state's education commissioner.

Visit the MASCA website (www.masca.org) to learn more about the model, or click HERE to download a PDF of the model from the MASCA website.

IF YOU ARE A SCHOOL COUNSELOR IN MASSACHUSETTS, the model is currently in the Massachusetts Department of Education's public comment review process. The last 2 pages of the model contain a feedback form, with directions for where to send your feedback. Your feedback is critical to ensure the Massachusetts State Model for School Counseling is adopted by the DOE. Please take the time to complete the feedback form contained in the model! If the model is adopted by the DOE, it will help to ensure school counselors of all grade levels have a prominent place in schools across the state of Massachusetts. The type and amount of feedback are both considerations during the public comment process, so please take a few moments to ensure your voice is heard!
