SBS Ad Airs on WGBY
Last fall each of the schools and colleges on campus contracted with WGBY Public Television (Springfield) to create a series of ads for the university, aimed at prospective students and focused on individual strengths. With only 30 seconds to do the job, SBS created a spot that highlighted quality of instruction, strength of faculty, and out of classroom opportunities—like internships, undergraduate research experiences and study abroad. The ad features anthropology major Jessica Aither ’11 with her honors advisor Professor Elizabeth Chilton MA ’91, PhD ’96 (anthropology).
Program sponsorship includes the PBS NewsHour, M-F, at 6:30 p.m. and WGBY World, during each of which UMass ads will run twice per evening. A constant presence of 30-second spots will occur three times a week during prime time run-of-schedule, and the ads will be embedded with original programming that will travel to PBS stations around the country and eventually on DVDs into schools. And if for some reason WGBY doesn't produce a program for national distribution this year, the clips will receive equivalent value in sponsorship of one of the stations "icon" series, like Antiques Road Show, NOVA, Nature, or Masterpiece.
