When students arrived on campus this fall, a brand new Social and Behavioral Sciences Advising Center opened its doors to welcome them. Located in 128 Thompson Tower, the Advising Center serves undergraduate majors in Anthropology, Communication, Economics, Journalism, Landscape Architecture and Regional Planning (except for AS candidates in Landscape Contracting*), Legal Studies, Political Science, Social Thought and Political Economy, and Sociology.

Mark A. Lange, associate dean and executive director of the SBS Advising Center, is eager to make the undergraduate experience at UMass Amherst the best that it can be for all SBS students. “Students always have plenty of questions about university requirements, and the staff at the Advising Center is available every day to help answer those questions. We also assist students with every aspect of academic support, from course selection to career planning. We look forward to working with you.”

SBS majors should watch their email for their ticket to the "Wing Thing," a welcome-to-campus party on Thursday, September 24 from 4 to 6 pm. The event, at 128 Thompson and the surrounding area, also marks the grand opening of the SBS Advising Center. There will be wings, chili, chips & salsa, information, music, giveaways, and a chance to win an iPod touch. Representatives from UMass Amherst Career Services, International Programs and Community Service Learning will be on hand as well. This opportunity is only available to SBS majors, who should watch their email closely in the week prior to the event for their ticket and raffle entry. Note: If you haven't already told us you are coming, please email us now to tell us you'll be there.

More information about the SBS Advising Center and downloadable forms for course substitutions, late add/drop, withdrawals, and more can be found on the SBS website.

* Landscape Contracting students continue to be advised by the Stockbridge School. In addition, Psychology BA candidates should come to the SBS Advising Center for advising on their Global Education Requirement. All other advising for psychology majors is available through the College of Natural Sciences in 113 Stockbridge Hall.
