Students Take Note: Investment Banking Internships Available, Application Deadline Looms

Investment banking bull image For the first time, the international investment banking group Piper Jaffray is coming to UMass Amherst to recruit college juniors for its Summer Analyst program, thanks to the efforts of Chris McCabe '81 (political science) and Mike McCaffrey '89 (accounting), both of whom are affiliated with the company. But don't delay. The deadline for applications is coming up on February 8, 2007.

Summer Analysts generally work ten to twelve weeks within an industry or product group in Technology Investment Banking and have the opportunity to learn financial modeling and basic analysis of companies and industries, as well as gain an understanding of the dynamics of the capital markets. These paid positions are available in the San Francisco Bay area. Students must have completed their junior year by June and be scheduled to graduate in December 2007 or spring 2008. They must have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

"I am excited to begin recruiting interns from UMass Amherst," says McCabe, a managing director at Piper Jaffray. "I know from firsthand experience that they are getting a top-quality education and will make excellent candidates for this challenging position." And McCaffrey, who works in investment banking, adds, "We look forward to being back on campus to meet students and talk more about the opportunities at Piper Jaffray. This could be the start of a great partnership."
