Feldman Named Interim Dean
Robert Feldman (psychology), associate dean of the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, has accepted the position of Interim Dean of the College. Writes Dean Janet Rifkin, who will step down the end of June, "This is wonderful news for all of us. Bob has broad and intimate knowledge about all facets of SBS and I know that he will be a committed, strong and engaged leader of the College during what we can anticipate will be a critical period of transition.
"Bob is deeply vested in furthering faculty research agendas as well as the fundamental research structure for the College. He is determined to enhance the academic experience of our undergraduate and graduate students. Most importantly however, you should all know that Bob accepted this challenging job only with the assurance from the Chancellor that the Social Sciences will continue to be supported as a critical part of the research mission of the campus. I will immediately begin to work with Bob to ensure as smooth a transition as possible."
As associate dean of SBS since 2006, Feldman has been involved with supporting faculty teaching and mentoring activities to strengthen classroom and service efforts, and the development of programs for undergraduates and graduate students. Since 2001, he has directed the Power Up for Student Success program for entering first-year students.
A member of the Psychology Department since 1977, Feldman is an accomplished researcher and teacher. He has also directed undergraduate and graduate studies in the department and headed its personality and social psychology division. His most recent book, The Liar in Your Life: The Way to Truthful Relationships, to be released this summer, has already received much attention from the media.
Says Provost Charlena Seymour, "The students, faculty and staff of the Social and Behavioral Sciences are fortunate that Bob has agreed to serve as interim dean. He will provide continuity of leadership and stability as the college moves forward."
