CSG Offers Energy Efficiency ans Clean Energy Scholarship
The Conservation Services Group (CSG) is a thriving nonprofit organization that promotes energy efficiency and the development of renewable energy resources to protect the environment; to
make homes and buildings safer, healthier, more comfortable, more durable, and more affordable to operate; and to
create a profitable, sustainable industry focused on the wise use of energy thereby contributing to building a more effective and efficient economy overall. In celebration of its 25th anniversary, the company has established a scholarship fund to support students whose studies or research involve the promotion of energy efficiency, energy policy, conservation, clean energy and sustainable living practices to reduce our impact on the planet. Applicants must be full time UMass Amherst undergraduate (sophomore/junior/senior) or graduate students from
the College of Engineering,
the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, or
the Isenberg School of Management.

Deadline: Monday, November 2, 2009 @ 12:00 Noon
Purpose: This scholarship fund was established by Conservation Services Group (CSG) in 2009 in celebration of the company’s 25th anniversary. The purpose of the scholarship is to support students whose studies or research involve the promotion of energy efficiency, energy policy, conservation, clean energy & sustainable living practices to reduce our impact on the planet.
CSG is a thriving, dynamic non-profit organization with the freedom and objectivity to suggest and implement the best possible solutions to their clients' energy efficiency and renewable energy challenges. Visit Conservation Services Group’s website.
Eligibility: Applicants must be full time UMass Amherst undergraduate (sophomore/junior/senior) or graduate students from:
the College of Engineering, or
the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences, or
the Isenberg School of Management
Selection: Three awards @ $7,666 each for the 2009-2010 academic year; one recipient from each school/college. Selection criteria are as follows:
Academic merit (undergraduates must have a GPA of 3.0 or above)
Financial need as determined by the applicant’s school or college or financial aid application
Quality of proposal and compatibility of applicant’s research/studies to the work of CSG
Strength of faculty recommendation.
CSG is seeking candidates who share their core beliefs and will not fund students participating in nuclear or clean coal technology.
Recipients of this award will be expected to:
Attend a luncheon in December with representatives with CSG
Submit a final, 2-page report in May 2010, which describes how the funding helped forward the student’s objectives as described in the application essay.

1. Completed cover sheet with applicant’s signature [pdf]
2. Résumé [be sure to include any work experience or education that is energy related]
3. A letter of reference from university faculty member.
[ISOM & Engineering Graduate Students: Letter must be from advisor.]
4. Unofficial transcript
5. Current Financial Aid Award Letter
6. Statement of Financial Need
7. A typed essay of 3-5 pages, double-spaced that describes your interest and intended studies and how they might be translated into a practical application that supports increasing awareness, adoption, or practice of energy efficiency, renewable energy or sustainable living technologies. [These essays may be reviewed by people off campus and should be non-confidential]
