Outreach to Alumni Is New Staff Member's Top Priority
New to the staff in the dean's office at the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences is Jackie Brousseau-Pereira '00 (MPA), director of external affairs. Reporting directly to Dean Janet Rifkin in this totally new position, she is responsible for building relationships with alumni and connecting them to students and faculty in mutually beneficial ways, primarily through scholarships, internships, and alumni visits to campus. Known for her extraordinary organizational skills, enthusiasm and outgoing personality, Brousseau-Pereira holds her BA from Providence College (1990).
Most recently, she was special projects manager at SBS's Center for Public Policy and Administration where for two years she developed new initiatives, including online graduate courses and undergraduate programs. She also developed relationships with alumni through print and online communications, planned professional development opportunities for students, and coordinated speakers and events. Prior to that she worked in several management capacities related to human services and community development.
In her new role Brousseau-Pereira has already immersed herself in a variety of projects. Right now she is working with several alumni who are seeking interns for their companies, focusing on best practices to find the best candidates. In addition, she is making arrangements for several alumni who will bring their professional expertise into a variety of classrooms, and for the Dean's Advisory Board, she is arranging all the logistics of their meetings and assuring that their priorities and intiatives move forward in a timely and consistent manner.
