Janice Irvine (sociology), chair of the department, received the American Sociology Association’s 2012-14 Contexts Claude Award for Best Feature Article (Domestic) for “Can’t Ask, Can’t Tell: How Institutional Review Boards Keep Sex in the Closet,” which was published in 2012.

The “Claudes” are named the quarterly’s founding editor, Claude Fischer, and recognize outstanding contributions to Contexts during the span of the current editorship as judged by the members of the magazine’s editorial board. Contexts is a publication of the American Sociological Association.
