Andrew McGavern ’13 (political science) is making the most of opportunities at UMass, including impressive internships, the Accelerated Master of Public Policy Program, scholarships, and various student development offices.
PhD candidate Thomas Herndon (economics), who helped debunk a key study by Harvard economists that supported austerity policies, has been selected one of twelve Honorable Mentions in The Boston Globe's 2013 Bostonians of the Year.
Of the West End House Scholarship, Rosana Urbaez ’14 (communication/psychology) says, "My success is contingent on having those around me believe in my success, and with help from scholarships like this, it can become a reality for me.”
After a competitive application process, Ritika Bhakhri ’14 (political science/legal studies) was selected by the UMass International Relations Club to attend the weekend conference. “I saw this as a perfect opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills that I have acquired in the classroom to debate on real life issues that we face as an international society,” she says.
Sara Amell '14 (sociology), who is paying her own way through college, has asked herself annually, "Can I afford another year?" Naturally, she was thrilled to receive the Class of 1945 Merit Scholarship to help with expenses.
