2006 Gordon and Dolores Sutton Scholarship Award

Elettra Pauletto ' 07, a double major in psychology and French, holds a certificate in international relations. Born and raised in Italy, she is a Commonwealth College student, a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Golden Key International Honor Society, Psi Chi Psychology Honor Society and the Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society. While at UMass Amherst, Pauletto has participated in the choir, volunteered for Water Watch, served as an office assistant in the psychology department and worked as a field manager for MassPIRG.

Pauletto’s $2,000 Sutton Scholarship allowed her to travel and study abroad in Grenoble, France, as well as in Senegal. She intends to put her abilities to use in the Peace Corps after graduation and is considering graduate school in the future.

Recently she wrote, "[My] semester abroad in Grenoble, France has been a wonderful experience. Having another language under my belt, especially one as important as French, will no doubt help me in my future endeavors. This winter term I will be heading to Senegal for a class on sustainable development, learning about sustainable agriculture and about how to teach it to locals of the Dakar area. It will give me a better idea of what it [will] be like to serve in the Peace Corps. Thank you for these wonderful opportunities."
