2006 Lawrence and Anna Wikander Scholarship Award

Amanda Lincoln ' 09 is a double major in biochemistry and animal science. A native of Norton, MA, she received her GED in June of 2005. Since coming to UMass Amherst, she has been involved with the UMass Dorset Sheep Group and the UMass Belted Galloway Group, volunteered at Mark’s Meadow Elementary School, served as personnel chair at Chi Omega Sorority. On the Dean’s List, she hopes that vet school is in her future.

Lincoln's $1,000 scholarship from the Lawrence and Anna Wikander Fund has eased some of her financial burden, allowing her to focus on her studies and participate in campus activities, which have helped her to define her future goals.

Recently she wrote, "Your generous gift is so unique in that it recognizes the fact that people who’ve earned their GED can achieve the same level of academic success as traditional high school graduates can. Giving this award shows so much faith in a group of people who commonly face a popular misconception that they cannot perform academically as well as others can. This act of goodwill  truly [has] made a huge difference in my life. Thank you so much!
