2006 Connor Internship Award
Allison Edles '07 is a double major in English and journalism with a minor in classical civilizations. A native of Westfield, NJ, she has been involved with the Daily Collegian since she coming to UMass Amherst as a staff writer, columnist and editor. Allison’s $2,500 Connor Internship award allowed her to complete a summer internship in Manhattan as an editorial assistant at Child Magazine with a circulation of more than one million and a fall internship as a copy editor with the Greenfield Recorder. Previously she interned with Disney's FamilyFun Magazine in Northampton.
Recently Edles wrote these words of thanks. "While my internship at FamilyFun Magazine was paid, Child Magazine did not pay and I was having a difficult time deciding whether I could accept it or not as [I fund] my schooling entirely by myself. Luckily, through your generosity, I was able to accept the position and now have experience working for a major national magazine in midtown Manhattan [for] my resume. Working there [was] a dream come true. I made so many important industry contacts and as an added bonus, I was even been able to do some writing that was published on Child’s website. Thank you for your generosity and the opportunities your scholarship have given me."
