Message from the Athletic Director

Dear UMass Student-Athlete,

Welcome to UMass Athletics. I could not be more excited about the start of a new academic and athletic year. We have been working with University Administration over the past few months to stabilize and improve many areas within the Athletic Department. I am very pleased with the progress we have made with operating budgets, student-athlete support systems, team and event supervision programs and capital projects planning. We are about to enter an extremely dynamic and productive time for UMass Athletics and we are proud to have you as one of the family.

With the privilege that has been extended to you to participate in Varsity Intercollegiate Athletics comes certain responsibilities and requirements. In this planner, we have provided information about many of these issues. I encourage you to read through this material carefully and contact your coach or an athletic administrator if you have any questions. Please remember that as a UMass studentathlete you represent your team, the athletic department and the University at all times. I am confident that you will assume that responsibility appropriately. If you ever have any questions or concerns about anything associated with your experience here at UMass or in your personal life, please do not hesitate to ask for advice. We are here to make your experience as positive and productive as we possibly can. Again, welcome. Have a great year and GO UMASS!

Sincerely,

John McCutcheon
Director of Athletics
