Katie Bettencourt Named UMass Spring Scholar-Athlete

AMHERST, Mass. - Massachusetts softball standout Katie Bettencourt was named the Spring Female Scholar-Athlete at the athletic department's Weekly Sports Luncheon on Wednesday.
Bettencourt is a two-time all-conference selection and was the 2010 Atlantic 10 Co-Player of the Year. The Salem, N.H. native had a career-best nine-game hitting streak earlier this season and her 20 career homers ranks ninth at UMass.
She has started all 39 games in right field and currently ranks fifth on the team in batting average, first in runs, second in home runs and RBI, and third in hits.
She carries a 3.21 grade point average while majoring in sociology and psychology, with a minor in education. Bettencourt is a four-time A-10 Commissioner's Honor Roll member who has logged more than 50 hours of community service as an active member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
