Since George W. Bush has been appointed President of the United States by the four conservative judges of the Supreme Court back in 2000, our country has changed dramatically. 3,000,000 jobs have been lost. People who were already rich got even richer, thanks to Mr. Bush's well-marketed tax cuts, while poverty statistics are on the rise. Dubya's lies ("by far the vast majority of my tax cuts go to those at the bottom of the economic ladder") - though exposed - have been effective. As a result of the three consecutive trickle-down tax cuts, which by the way cost the government several times more than both of the wars combined, we are back in deficit-land today as well as for years to come. Oh, and of course, there is no money left for education, heath care, public works and infrastructure, local law enforcement, and <insert your favorite government service here>.
Public funding for education at all levels is at its lowest point in decades (but let's "leave no child behind"). Laws protecting our civil liberties and human rights are diminishing thanks to the brilliant Patriot Act and the person in charge, Mr. John "Death-Penalty-For-All" Ashcroft. Laws protecting our health and environment are being tossed around and out of the window as Bush & Co. are returning favors to their corporate backers. International treaties, international law, and the entire world community are being ignored and disrespected, making America weak and isolated, not strong and admired.
We, the University Democrats, have had enough! This government claims to practice "compassionate conservatism", but it is neither compassionate, nor truly conservative. It is driven by a narrow neo-con ideology that has brought us where we are today: on the far Right in all respects. We have gone to the Right way too far! From now on, it's LEFT TURN ONLY!
