UMASS Tae Kwon Do Taegeuk Yi JangTaegeuk Yi Jang (2nd Taegeuk form)

Trigram: Tui

Taegeuk Yi Jang is based on the trigram pictured to the left. This trigram is called “Tui” in Chinese, and “Tae” in Korean (no relation to the “Tae” in Tae Kwon Do). In English, we might call it “The Joyous”, and its essential attribute is joyfulness. Other associations: The direction of South East, the image of the lake, and the family correspondence is the third daughter, or youngest daughter.

The movements in this form are controlled and gentle, in tune with the attitude of serenity suggested by the trigram. The practitioner should concentrate on the concept of outer gentleness with inner firmness.

The figure of the trigram is formed by the practitioner executing the poomse: the first two lines are strong (two techniques are performed in each direction on each of the strong lines), and the top line is weak (only one technique is performed in each direction).

New techniques: olgul-makki (high block), olgul bandae jireugi (high punch)
