About the UMASS Tae Kwon Do TeamThe best way to learn about us is to come to practice! We have new people starting almost every single week. Come and check us out!Our CurriculumWe are developing a written curriculum detailing the techniques that should be mastered at each belt level. This is intended to help students know which techniques to focus on while studying for a belt test. We learn many techniques which are not listed in our curriculum, and students will be tested on techniques not appearing therein. The curriculum is merely a guide to help keep understand the progression of taekwondo techniques. Our Team motto:Our team motto is "Perseverance, Respect, Integrity, Scholarship, Discipline, Self-Control, Courtesy, and Indomitable Spirit". The principle goal of our practice of Taekwondo is to attain the virtues enumerated in our motto. Governance and university affiliationWe are a Registered Student Organization of the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. This means that the team is governed by a democratically elected group of officers. Our rules and procedures are set forth in our constitution, which can be amended by appropriate vote of our team members. In the interest of transparency, we publish complete minutes of our organization meetings. Organizational meetings occur on the first Saturday of every month that school is in session. Meetings are generally run informally, but we use a simplified version of Robert's Rules of Order if there is a lot of business to discuss. Our HistoryThe UMASS Tae Kwon Do Team was founded in 1988. We have gone through many changes as new students join, and old students graduate, but we continue to grow stronger and larger every year. We are deeply grateful to the Masters and chief instructors who have served over the years to keep our tradition going! UMASS Tae Kwon Do Team Statement of Non-DiscriminationThe UMASS Tae Kwon Do Team finds discrimination antithetical to the tenets of Tae Kwon Do, and pledges to fight against racial, religious, and other discrimination.
