Mediation and Alternative Dispute Resolution Services
The office also provides alternative dispute resolution services such as mediation and arbitration. Each of the professional staff have received Mediation Training Certificates from the Student Legal Services Section of the National Legal Aid and Defender Association. In addition, some staff members have received Certificates in Mediation Techniques from the University of Massachusetts, and some staff have participated in training programs offered by the National Mediation Training Institute, the American Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association, and the Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination. If both parties agree, we can assist in mediating student versus student conflicts. The vast majority of mediation cases by Student Legal Services Office staff have been successfully resolved. A small fee is charged for all alternative dispute resolution services.
