About us S.A.M.B.A

S.A.M.B.A objectives are related to assisting in high school Outreach Programs and Education.

I. High School Outreach

The Brazilian Organization plans to visit known high schools possessing large Brazilian populations and speak on the benefits of a college education. We want to share our experiences with the younger peers. By showing high school students what we have done, we hope to:

A. Improve the lines of communications between Brazilian high school students and UMass - Amherst students.

B. Be mentors to these students.

C. Guide them from our experience with financial aid.

D. Add to the Brazilian population at UMass so that it can benefit from what this culture has to offer to the multicultural atmosphere here at UMass.

E. Most importantly, let them know that they are not alone and do not have to embark on this journey by themselves.

II. Education Within UMass

UMass prides itself on providing a diverse education for all students. We can add to this environment by:

A. Distinguishing Latin American cultural from Brazilian culture. We will show how we are similar but unique.

B. Having joint meetings with other organizations to dispel myths that we all carry and enrich each other. In this present time of political and social unrest around the world, adding the Brazilian Organization will enhance tolerance and promote unity among us students at UMass as well as give Brazilians a comfortable place to express themselves.
