About the SAA
Mission and Purpose
The Student Alumni Association (SAA) is
a registered student organization at UMass Amherst which serves as a link between
the current students and its alumni. The main purpose of our events
and activities is to enhance students' experiences while at UMass Amherst.
We promote interaction between present students and alumni, which in
turn increases involvement for the betterment of the UMass Amherst. As
members of the SAA, we participate in valuable leadership and professional
experiences, gain a stronger appreciation for our campus, and have
a significant positive influence in our college community. It is this
whole UMass Amherst involvement that makes the SAA one of the most valued
organizations on campus.
Who we are
Besides being students here on campus, we are leaders. We wear many
hats as members of the SAA. We are event planners along with the UMass
Amherst Alumni Association staff, hosts and hostesses to UMass Amherst
Alumni Association events, and representatives of the student body on
various planning committees. In addition, we serve as Chancellor's Personal Hosts, a student ambassador program, for the Chancellor at various events .
Our pride in UMass Amherst and in the SAA is carried through all we do
and support.
Committees
The majority of work that gets done in the SAA is completed in committee. Members are asked to join at least two committees. Each committee has at least one chairperson and an Executive Board liaison.
- Commencement Ball Committee
- Community Service Committee
- Kiss a Senior Goodbye Committee
- Social Events Committee
- Special Events Committee
- Welcome Bundle Program Committee
Membership and Association
of Student Advancement Programs (ASAP)
We encourage any UMass Amherst student who wants to make a difference
on our campus to join. Our doors are always open and welcoming!
Being a member of the SAA means being
an active and involved member of the UMass Amherst community. Members
are expected to attend meetings, where we team-build and discuss our
involvement in various activities that we are participating in or planning.
We host our events with pride and value our meeting time together.
By becoming a member of the SAA, you become
a member of the Association of Student Advancement Programs (ASAP).
This is the international association that similar student alumni organizations
belong to. The SAA attends ASAP conferences where we meet students
from other groups and exchange programming ideas, gain insight on how
other organizations operate, but most importantly, create lasting relationships
with other students from around New England and the country.
