UMass Pre-Veterinary and Animal Science Club:

CONSTITUTION

I.          NAME:  Pre-Veterinary & Animal Science Club

II.        PURPOSE: 

  1. Mission Statement:  “Our Goal is to provide a fun, relaxing social atmosphere for animal science students.  This will allow them to exchange ideas and form friendships with others who share their love of animals and professional aspirations.  This will also provide educational opportunities and activities outside of the classroom.  All majors are welcome, not just Animal Science majors.  The club is also open to all students of all years.” 

  2. To provide guest speakers, films, and demonstrations that introduce a variety of topics in the animal science field, as well as first-hand observations of animal management and technological advances in the animal science field; in addition to promote animal-related community service

  3. To keep members updated in the health-related fields of veterinary medicine and other animal-related career alternatives

  4. To supply information regarding the procedure involved in applying to schools of veterinary medicine

III.       MEMBERSHIP: 

  1. Eligibility:  Open to any enrolled college student with an interest in animal-related topics

  2. Requirements for membership: 

    1. Signing attendance

    2. Must attend two out of every three scheduled club meetings

    3. Must commit to a minimum of two events

    4. Must complete four hours of volunteer service

  3. No one shall be denied acceptance according to membership requirements

IV.       OFFICERS: 

  1. Eligibility:  All undergraduate members who have been active for at least one semester

  2. Titles and Duties: 

    1. President: 

      1. Presiding over all meetings

      2. Organization of meetings, functions, and committees, upon approval of club faculty advisor, when applicable

      3. Should hold signature responsibility, unless deemed more beneficial to be held by other officer

    2. Vice President: 

      1. Assumption of duties of the President in his/her absence

      2. Assistance to the President in all capacities

      3. Presiding over chairs, when present

    3. Treasurer: 

      1. Keeping financial records and updating the financial status of the club

      2. Responsible for all events involving club finances, including purchase orders  and SASP card

      3. chairing fundraising events

      4. Maintain online method for donations to club

      5. Budget Reactivation Packet, including other officers in process

      6. Will hold signature responsibility

    4. Secretary: 

      1. Attendance of all people present at all club meetings and events, including officer meetings

      2. Recording meetings minutes at all club meetings and events, including all officer meetings

      3. Maintain attendance, meeting minutes, and officer minutes as computer files

      4. Provide copy of meeting minutes and officer minutes to any officer who misses club meeting, officer meeting or event

      5. Maintain and update club bulletin board

      6. Maintain veterinary and graduate school information

    5. Website Manager: 

      1. Maintain club UMail account password for website and UDrive purposes

      2. Maintain club website and website files

    6. Livestock Classic Coordinator:

      1. Oversee planning and organization of all aspects of the Annual Baystate Livestock Classic

      2. Maintaining relevant contact information

      3. Check emails and respond regularly in Livestock Classic Yahoo! account

    7. All officers: 

      1. Organize events

      2. Maintain contact information in club Yahoo! email account

      3. Check emails and respond regularly in club Yahoo! account; excluding Livestock Classic Coordinator, who should check club email occasionally during fall semester

      4. Maintain all club file cabinets and storage cabinet

  3. Elections: 

    1. Will be held at the end of every spring semester

    2. All undergraduate members may participate in the elections of new officers

    3. Process: 

      1. All candidates must submit a note of intention to club officers prior to time of elections

      2. During time of elections each candidate will be allowed to deliver a speech not exceeding three minutes at which time all other candidates for that position will be outside of the room behind a closed door

      3. Voting will be done at the conclusion of the speeches for that position through a secret ballot

      4. Counting of votes and announcement of new officers will be done by club faculty advisor immediately following voting for each position

  4. More than one person can serve an office if needed

  5. Impeachment: 

    1. A meeting of all officers not threatened by impeachment must be held to discuss the issues at hand; the majority of the officers must agree to impeach the threatened officer

    2. A meeting of officers and members must be held during which the majority of members agree to impeach the threatened officer

V.       COMMITTEES: 

  1. Any club member is eligible for a chair position

  2. President appoints chairs

  3. Vice President presides over committees

  4. Committees formed as needed

VI.       MEETINGS: 

  1. Regular meetings: 

    1. A meeting time and place will be designated at the start of each semester

    2. Decisions should be made by a majority vote of present members

    3. A quorum for voting is thirteen people, including at least four members of the executive board

    4. General voting can be done by hand count

  2. Special meetings: 

    1. May be called by the executive board if the majority believes it to be necessary

    2. Notification should be given to members by the executive board at least one day in advance

VII.       AMENDMENTS: 

  1. In order to consider a proposal to amend the constitution, members must be notified at the previous regular meeting

  2. A two-thirds vote of a quorum of members is required to pass a proposed amendment
