May 2004: UMass Amherst Persian Student Organization (PSO) presented our former president, Reza Rahmani was with the most outstanding leadership award for his role as the first president of PSO.

March 2004: First Annual Multi-Campus Iranian Awareness Week

In the spirit of unity and Persian New Year UMASS Amherst Persian Student Organization is proud to participate in the first Multi-campus Iranian Awareness Week organized by UC Berkeley ISAA, along with UCLA's Iranian Student Group and Northeastern's Persian Club.

Iranian activist Shirin Ebadi was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her struggle for basic human rights in Iran.

Her award ceremony is held on December 10th in Oslo City Hall. More

Iranian-Canadian Nazanin Afshin-Jam crowned Miss World Canada 2003

Nazanin Afshin-Jam, a 24-year-old Iraninan-Canadian residing in Vancouver,
has been crowned Miss World Canada 2003. Nazanin will be traveling to China in December to compete for the Miss World title. More

According to the 2002 census 69% of Iranian-Americans hold Bachelor degrees or above, and more than 28% hold graduate degrees, making them the highest educated group in the U.S.

Iranian-Americans are the founders of some 380 major national firms, and the CEOs of more than 550 national companies, many of them among the Fortune 2,000 companies. The total contribution of Iranian-American community to the U.S. economy is estimated at more than $600 billion per year.
