MISSION STATEMENT:

  1. To maintain open communication with the residents of Orchard Hill Area, University of Massachusetts at Amherst faculty, administration, Undergraduate Student Government Association and the community.
  2. To provide the Students with an active voice in Orchard Hill area decision-making.
  3. To promote the general welfare of the Orchard Hill area and the community.
  4. To develop leadership qualities and organizational skills within the membership.

OHAG CONSTITUTION:

We, the Undergraduate Residents of the Orchard Hill Area at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, in order to provide an effective, responsible, and representative student government for the Undergraduate residents of Orchard Hill Area, through the application of democratic policies, principles, and the delegation of authority by the University of Massachusetts at Amherst Undergraduate Student Senate and Board of Trustees do hereby establish this constitution of the Orchard Hill Area Government.

Our powers and duties are:

  1. To provide an effective, responsible, and representative student government for the undergraduate residents of Orchard Hill through the application of democratic policies and principles and the delegation of authority by the Undergraduate Student Senate and the University of Massachusetts Board of Trustees.
  2. To promote student empowerment and leadership within the Orchard Hill Area at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and to embrace the cultural, education, and community experience of Orchard Hill.
  3. Represent the undergraduate residents of Orchard Hill to the Undergraduate Student Senate, the university administration, and the public.
  4. Promote and protect student rights and responsibilities, especially as they relate to residence hall life.
  5. Develop programs and activities to serve and entertain the university community, particularly geared towards the Orchard Hill area.
  6. Maintain a forum within the Orchard Hill area for the expression of student views and interests.
  7. Support, monitor, guide, and coordinate Orchard Hill Area House Councils.
  8. Keep Orchard Hill area residents informed of happenings via a newsletter or other means.
  9. To establish Orchard Hill Area Government standing rules and procedures as necessary and proper.
  10. To organize and promote general and special elections in and for the Orchard Hill area.
  11. To establish, publish, and enforce such election rules and procedures as are necessary and proper.
  12. To raise and expend monies for Orchard Hill Area Government purposes.
  13. To fill any vacancies of the Orchard Hill Area Government and its related bodies by means stated in the election rules.
  14. All members have one vote on Orchard Hill Area Government issues. The Governor shall vote in the case of a tie.
  15. To hear all controversies arising under this constitution and to have jurisdiction enforcing it.
  16. To serve as the authority to address any behavior to attendance infractions of all the Orchard Hill Area Government and its related bodies members, and shall have jurisdiction responding to them.
  17. To make any determination in response to a due process hearing.
