NSA Bulletin, 03/03/97 Weekly Meetings

We would like to remind allstudents that the NSA meets every Sunday evening at 8:00 pm (barring holidays and otherevents) in the Sunken Lounge, which islocated in the main corridor of the Newman Center. All Newman Community members are invited to attend, especially undergraduates.

Mardi Gras!

On February 11, the NSA sponsored a Mardi Gras dance. A DJ was there and everyone who was there had a great time. Both UMASS and Mt. Holyoke students were in attendance. Thank You to everyone who helped to make it a success!

Spring Picnic

The NSA is planning our second annual Spring Picnic for May 10th. Keep this date free! Last yearŐs picnic was at the Quabbin, and we had a great time. This year's location has not yet been picked, but if you have any suggestions, please bring them up at the next NSA meeting. Food and transportation will be provided.

Newman Beautification Day

Newman Beautification Day will be May 3rd. Beautification Day is a great chance to give back to the Newman Center. Maureen O'Keefe will be coordinating the event this year, please contact her if you have any questions or suggestions.

Ice Skating

On February 23rd, a number of NSA members got together to go ice skating at the Mullins Center Ice Rink. Everyone who went had a great time. Special thanks to Katherine Rowley for setting things up!

Spring Retreat

The Newman Student Association will be sponsoring a UMASS retreat at the Woolman Hill Retreat Center in Deerfield,just 20 minutes north of the UMASS campus. The cost is $20.00 and scholarships areavailable. The retreat will take place from10:00am March 8th to 2:00pm March 9th. Give A Penny!

The Give A Penny campaign is being run by the seventh grade Newman Center Religious Education Classes. The goal of the GAP campaign is to raise one million pennies for the children of Haiti. Already the fund drive has raised one thousand dollars, or atenth of its goal. If you would like to help the junior high students in raising money for the impoverished children of Haiti, please drop off any of your spare change in the Newman Center Office.

New York City!

The Newman Student Association will be sponsoring a trip to New York City on April 12th. The cost will be less than $20 round trip, meals not included. While the details of the trip are still being worked out, we will probably be going to a number of interesting sites within the city. If interested, please sign up at the next NSA meeting. The trip is open to any member of the UMASS community.
