Yet another abandoned piece of Mutant culture. Once a
quaint little amusement park in the valley, now an almost forgotten realm of
our past. I can vaguely remember going here as a kid. It was never
anything like Riverside Park but hell it's only a couple of minutes from
Northampton. Why it went out of business I don't know but it is a shame.
Just visiting the rubble brings back childhood memories of the eighties, being
bewildered by quaint little amusement parks and the annual carnival that
travels through town. Mt. Tom seems to hold that glamour within its
ghostly shell years after still functioning parks lost theirs.
There is an old mini golf course that has all the cement
courses with holes and astroturf still visible. The overgrowth of nature
mixed with cement shapes and astroturf creates a surreal environment.
Although this is Posted Property Many Senior citizens come out
to walk here during the weekends so I don't think you can get in
trouble, but don't take my word for it. And due to the subjects and
currency of the graffiti on the buildings I don't know how safe it is at
night. I also have seen a cop car on the road to the park as I was driving
away (quite early in the morning) just to let you know.
There is some very beautiful graffiti on the grounds if you
know where to look. Most of it is juvenile garbage though. One of my
friends knows some of the people's work, which surprised me, but then again
I'm not into that stuff. Above is my favorite part of Mt Tom. This is
where all the games were. It emits the most energy for me; I can
almost hear the park as though it were alive.
The building on the left above used to hold the carousel. It's
empty now. Only ghosts.
