Director's Note
The musical Little Shop of Horrors has been a favorite of mine since I was a child. I
used to play the sound track and let the music move me to dance and sing around the house for hours. My ultimate dream role was to play the part of Audrey until I realized that I wasn't going to grow any taller (and no one would ever cast a 5'1" Audrey).
At that time, I never imagined that I would one day direct Lil' Shop.
The past few weeks have taught me not only about the creative process of directing a show, but a lot about myself and how I can find the strength within me to inspire those I am
working with. I have an amazing group of people to thank for it. Thank you to all the designers for the beautiful work; to the rest of the Artistic Team; who are some of the most talented people I have every worked with; to the Executive Board for all of
their support; to Ari for being a great producer and an even better friend; to Sarah, the best Stage Manager ever to come out of New Bedford; to Kristin, for the presence she brings to the stage through movement; to the cast for their undying patience and
creativity; to Mattie for keeping me smiling; and especially to my family for all of the love and support they have given me (and putting up with my constant singing around the house). To all of those who I didn't have enough room to thank: Thank you, to
o!
Now, I urge you to sit back, relax and enjoy the culmination of over six weeks of dedicated work. We promise to keep your feet tapping to the music and put a smile on your face that will last until Audrey II comes to get you.
Thank you,
Kelly Ristaino
