Picture a world without companionship. How would you feel? Alone? What if you did not? What if you honestly thought that being alone would be fine forever? You would be an outcast in a society that says partnership and marriage are the logical progression of life. Everyone gets married eventually. You are not complete if you do not. Enter Company. This show is about marriage, but it explores deeper issues. Through this story, the audience gets to see Bobby's life through his own eyes. You begin to understand the extremities of the people and relationships around him while observing the pressure and confusion that Bobby encounters. Frequently, Bobby's company is not company at all. They are the alienating force that is pushing him into a life-chaning situation. Working on this production has been a 'life-changing situation' for me. When I got to UMass in 1996, I knew that I wanted to direct a musical my senior year. Creating this production has been a dream. I have learned a tremendous amount about evaluating the self and looking at things from a different perspective. This has been an amazing experience for me and I would like to thank everyone who helped the process along the way. I would especially like to thank Shira, Michelle, and Sara for all of their hard work and dedication. It makes life a lot easier knowing that you are working with such extraordinary people. I also would like to thank my parents. It's hard to look back and deny that this is all their fault. I dedicate this show to them because, without them, my life would be empty. Last, I want to thank you all for coming. I hope that you enjoy the show and leave with a greater understanding of love and life. Welcome to Bobby's world. - Jana Jacobson |
