Practices Membership Directions
Although UMass Fencing is a Registered Student Organization (i.e., club sport) on campus, the team competes at the varsity level against schools from all over New England. These schools include Boston College, Boston University, Harvard, MIT, and Brandeis. Some of the Northeast schools have NCAA programs (Boston College and Brandeis, for example) while other fencing programs are club sports (UMass, Dartmouth and UNH).

Fencers of various skill levels compete for UMass. Some have previous fencing experience, but most come from our Novice Program. All novices integrate with the varsity team at the end of the Novice Program, but not all novices end up competing for UMass. Varsity selection is based on skill and technique, and also on practice attendance. We regularly send fencers to USFA competitions, including NAC events and Nationals.

The University of Massachusetts Fencing Team participates in several different leagues: The Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC), the New England Collegiate Club Fencing League (NECCFL), the New England Intercollegiate Fencing Conference (NEIFC), the New England Intercollegiate Women's Fencing Association (NEIWFA) and the National Intercollegiate Women's Fencing Association (NIWFA).
